Evelyn Marie (Morrison) Donaldson

Evelyn Marie Donaldson, 100, of Lawrence, Kansas, was born October 31, 1917 in Beckley, WV, the daughter of Charles Neff Morrison and Macie Hattie (Davis) Morrison.  She died of natural causes Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Bridge Haven Assisted Living in Lawrence, KS.

Evelyn graduated from Huntington High School in WV and attended Marshall College.  In 1938, she married J Harold Donaldson Jr. and worked as a medical technologist at Duke University and later in Akron, OH.  In 1943, they moved to McCook, NE, to set up his medical practice. She was a dedicated wife and mother to four children. In 1990, she moved to Lincoln, NE, and recently moved to Lawrence, KS.

She was very active in her communities throughout the years: PEO since 1946; dedicated volunteer in PTA then later over 20 years reading text books for university disabled students; leader in various organizations; education supporter through university scholarships; active learner through world travel, always reading and participating in book clubs; creative poet and actor in community plays; and avid bridge player throughout her life.

Preceding her in death are her parents; sister, Dorothy Genevieve Conley; husband, J Harold Donaldson Jr. MD; sons, Alan Dale Donaldson and Bruce Kim Donaldson; and son-in-law, Carl Dean Delcour.

Survivors include her daughters: Cheryl Lynn Delcour of Grantville, KS, and Jo Roxanne Newland (Dale) of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter-in-laws: Kathy Donaldson of West Plains, MO, and Salli Nelson of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren: Christopher Thompson (Stephanie) of Olathe, KS, Michael Thompson (Linda) of Santa Clarita, CA, and Julie Legleiter (Chris) of Olathe, KS; and six great grandchildren.

The family is planning a private graveside service.  Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the P.E.O. Scholar Awards at P.E.O Executive Office, Attn: P.E.O. Scholar Awards, Treasurer’s Dept, 3700 Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312.
