John J. (Jack) Shannon, age 99, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 at Hillcrest Nursing Home.
Jack was born to Edward and Margaret (Ryan) Shannon on November 8, 1912 at Hartford, Conn. He moved with his family to Omaha when he was six where he attended Creighton Prep School.
Jack met and married Stacia (Anastasia) Horky on May 25, 1938 in Omaha. They moved to Aurora, CO and lived there for 62 years.
During the depression he found work through the government Civil Conservation Corps, C.C.C., in California cutting trees for a sum of $30 dollars a month, sending $25 dollars home to his family. He would box on Saturday nights while in the C.C.C. to earn extra money, which in those days was called a smoker. Jack became an electrician for Burlington Northern Railroad at Denver. He was the general chairman for the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers).
Jack enjoyed golf, fishing. playing cards (most of all porker), and bowling of which he became a member of the Denver's Bowlers Hall of fame. He was a kind and gentle man, always helping others when ever he could and always looking out for his fellow workers on the railroad.
