Anna Elizabeth Montey

Anna Elizabeth Montey, age 72, of McCook, NE passed away at her home in McCook on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

Anna was born November 7, 1949, in McCook to parents Anton August and Catherine Anna (Colling) Blume.  She was one of seven children who grew up in McCook, attending school and graduating from McCook High School with the Class of 1968.  Anna went on to attend Kearney State College in Kearney, NE, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in education with a minor in early childhood education.

On August 3, 1974, Anna married the love of her life, Jerry Dean Montey at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad, NE.  The couple was blessed with six children: Tera, Kristin, Brett, Brian, Sara and Kelli.  Anna began her teaching career in Cozad before returning to McCook.  Anna was a lifelong teacher, retiring in 2016 after twenty-eight years plus of teaching.

Aside from her students, Anna loved reading, making rosaries and spending time with her family and grandchildren, attending their activities and sporting events. She was a member of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Our Lady of Fatima Circle, St. Patrick’s Altar Society, women’s bible study and a CCD Teacher.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Darmon (Eileen) Montey; and her brother-in-law, Doug Montey.

Those left to celebrate her life include her husband, Jerry Montey of McCook; children, Tera (Kevin) Boyd of McCook, Kristin (Wade) Hunter of Torrington, WY, Brett (Samantha) Montey of Gillette, WY, Brian (Stephanie) Montey of McCook, Sara (Nathaniel) Whisenhunt of Lincoln, NE and Kelli (Zak) Courtney of Lincoln, NE; brother, Tony Blume of McCook; sisters, Barb (Lee) Miller of Culbertson, NE, Ellen (Bill) Edmundson of Culbertson, NE, Mary Blume of McCook, Patty (Norman) Kirschner of Hastings, NE and Cathy (Steve) Bryant of McCook; fourteen grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are designated to either St. Patrick’s Catholic School, PO Box 1040, McCook, NE 69001 or Community Heath Care Home Health and Hospice, 1301 East H Street, McCook, NE 69001.
