May 6, 1921 — May 3, 2014

Avis Nadine Suda, age 92, of Palisade, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska.

Nadine was born May 6, 1921 in Shenandoah, Iowa to parents Oscar Harold and Maude M. (Graham) Weston. She was one of six children. Growing up Nadine attended schools in both Iowa and Nebraska, one of which was the Estelle School north of Hamlet, Nebraska. During one particular year of grade school, she attended over five different schools. During high school Nadine attended school in Palisade. She was an honor roll student up until her sophomore year when she stopped going to school in order to care for her mother. In 1971 Nadine received her GED. She then continued her education at McCook Community College, receiving a license in Nursing Home Administration.

On September 2, 1944, Nadine married Frank Suda in Oberlin, Kansas. To this union two children were born, Helen (Frankie) and Don.

Nadine chose many different career paths throughout the years. From 1941 to 1942 she worked in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as a Pattern Carrier building airplanes during WW II. Returning in 1942, Nadine began working as a telephone operator, continuing until dial telephones came to Palisade in the 1950's. Frank and Nadine also owned the Dairy Creme in Palisade during the 1960's as well as the Gambles Store until the early 1970's. It was also during the 1970's that Nadine served as the Administrator of the Nursing Home in Benkelman until leaving to help cut and bale hay on the family's custom hay business. She enjoyed being a mechanic's wife, picking up repair parts for Frank.

Nadine spent many years as a caretaker, caring for her mother, mother-in-law, father, children and grandchildren. Although Nadine shared many fulfilling careers throughout her life, she considered being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother her greatest accomplishment.

Nadine was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in McCook, The Woman's Club of Palisade, Rebekah Lodge, Ladies Bridge Club and Eastern Star. She was a Cub Scout Leader, enjoyed gardening, playing cards and was an excellent cook who was always trying something new. Nadine was also a licensed airplane pilot, earning her license in 1962.
