Barbara Lee (Jones) Broomfield

Barbara Lee (Jones) Broomfield, age 80, of McCook, NE passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, NE.

Barb was born to Leo and Alta (Brinkman) Jones on September 9, 1938 north of Holbrook in Gosper County. She was the youngest of two children born to this union.

Barb attended school in Holbrook, graduating with the Class of 1956.  She went on to further her education at Kearney State College before moving to McCook where she worked for First National Bank for the next 4 1/2 years.

On January 4, 1964, Barb married William (Bill) Broomfield in Cambridge, NE.  The couple was blessed with four children; Jim, Mike, Steve and Geneva.  Shortly after they were married, Bill and Barb moved to Virginia where Bill was stationed in the Army.  When Bill was sent to Korea for a yearlong tour, Barb moved back to McCook, arriving right before the birth of their first son, Jim. Upon Bill’s return, the couple moved to the family farm, where Bill was born, then moving into McCook in 2009.

Over the years, Barb was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she helped make numerous church lunches and volunteered at the Bargain Bazaar.  Barb loved her family dearly and looked forward to attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting events.  She enjoyed hosting her kids, grandkids and their friends for lunch, suppers and after school gatherings.

Barb also enjoyed the outdoors where she could be found working in her yard, or sitting on the porch reading a book.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Alta Jones; husband William (Bill) Broomfield in 2014; three brothers in law, Ben Powley, Bob Broomfield and Bob Colling; as well as sister in law, M. J. Broomfield.

Those left to mourn her passing include sons, Jim (Denise) Broomfield of Indianola, NE, Mike (Susan) Broomfield of Minden, NE and Steve (Melissa) Broomfield of McCook; daughter, Geneva (Chris) Armbrust of Omaha, NE; sister, Peg Colling of Kearney; sisters in law, Elda Powley of Lincoln, NE and Lynette (Dr. William) Beck of Hastings, NE; seven grandchildren Cody (fiancé Ashley Ramberg), Brittany, Cassa, Avery, and Paige Broomfield, Corey Paz, and Amber Gosnell as well as numerous friends and extended family members.
