Barbara Ann Shannon

Barbara Ann Shannon, age 76, of McCook, NE passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Barbara was born January 5, 1948, in Denver, CO to parents Robert and Geraldine (Lock) Winn. She attended school in Denver, graduating from George Washington High School with the Class of 1966. On January 28, 1967, Barbara married Timothy D. Shannon at St. James Catholic Church in Denver. They were blessed with two children, Dennis and Michelle.

Barbara loved the outdoors which extended to joyful times with friends at the lake, spending time in the Colorado mountains, and enjoying the beautiful sunsets on Anna Maria Island, FL. Barbara had a profound love for animals, particularly horses, which she raised with passion. She was a member of the Scarlet Ribbon Drill Team, showcasing her skills in numerous parades and rodeos. Beyond the arena, Barbara was known for her creative talents, from quilting beautiful blankets for her loved ones, to engaging in various craft projects. Barbara had fond memories of her days in the women’s bowling league and playing co-ed softball with Tim and their friends. She enjoyed going to the horse races in Grand Island, and from years past, the dog races in Denver. She was an excellent cook and baker, leaving a legacy of wonderful dishes that will be fondly remembered by her friends and family.

Barbara cherished every moment spent with her loved ones and made it a priority to create lasting memories with them. Whether it was through family dinners, vacations, or simply spending time at home together, Barbara found joy in the simple pleasures of being surrounded by those she cared for most. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who was always putting the needs of her family before her own. Her selflessness and dedication were evident in everything that she did. Barbara's love for her family was unwavering and she was grateful for the blessings they brought into her life.

Barbara was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; and the stepfather who raised her, Clifford Murray.

Those left to celebrate her life include her husband, Timothy Shannon of McCook, NE; son, Dennis Shannon (Rebecca Douglass) of Arcadia, FL; daughter, Michelle Shannon of McCook, NE; sister, Debra Murray of Champion, NE; and a grandson, Timothy Shannon.
