Obituary

Beverly Lee Rhea was born on April 19, 1939, in Gothenburg, Nebraska, to Lester Emeral Dinnel and Irma Louise (Milburn) Dinnel. She peacefully passed away on Labor Day, September 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, resilience, and family.

Beverly was the youngest of four daughters. Her sisters, in birth order, were Phyllis Wilcox, Lesta Jaggers, Mary Podhajsky, and Beverly, the cherished youngest sister. Growing up in Nebraska during challenging times helped shape the values that guided her throughout her life: hard work, perseverance, humility, and an unwavering devotion to family. She graduated from McCook High School in 1957.

Throughout her life, Beverly called several Nebraska communities home, including Gothenburg, Maywood, Indianola, Funk, and McCook. No matter where she lived, family remained at the center of her world.

On August 18, 1958, Beverly married Robert "Bob" Louis Longnecker. Together they raised three sons whom she loved deeply. She married Phillip Conger Rhea on November 10, 1984. Their years together brought happiness and friendship until Phil's passing on October 13, 2017.

Bev was a homemaker and later worked at TRW as well as in food service. She was a member of P.E.O., Eastern Star, Genealogical Society and McCook Art Guild.

Beverly is lovingly remembered by her sons: Robert Randel (Randy) Longnecker and wife Susan of Buffalo, Wyoming; Donald Keith Longnecker and wife Mary Jo of Indianola, Nebraska; and Leslie William (Bill) Longnecker of McCook, Nebraska.

She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Kristen (Shane) Johnson, Brett Longnecker, Mariah (Chase) Pierson, Kelsey (Trevor) Van Pelt, Natalie Loya, and Katie (Liam) Sheffer. Eight great-grandchildren: Sophia, Emma and Maddyn Pierson, Emersyn, Graham and Owen Van Pelt, Ava and Tripp Johnson, who brought immense joy and pride to her life.

Beverly is also survived by Phillip Rhea's children and their families: Bruce and wife Trish Rhea of Kensington, Kansas; Brian and wife Robin Gilliland of Lincoln, Nebraska; Brad and wife Christine Gilliland of San Diego, California; Christopher Rhea of Rapid City, South Dakota; Monica and husband Kenny Walker of Mankato, Kansas; Deanna and husband John Somers of North Platte, Nebraska; and Kathy and husband Kevin Brant of Louisburg, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Robert Longnecker and Phillip Rhea; her sisters; and many family members and friends she loved throughout her life.

Those who knew Beverly will remember her gentle spirit, quiet personality, and sweet and caring nature. She never sought attention for herself but possessed a remarkable gift for making others feel loved, welcomed, and supported. Whether through a comforting conversation, a thoughtful gesture, or simply being present when someone needed her, Beverly touched countless lives.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, genealogy, and caring for the many horses and beloved pets that shared her life over the years. Family gatherings, holidays, and time spent with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were among her greatest joys. She was spiritually grounded, having grown up in the Methodist Church and carried those values of faith, compassion, and service throughout her life.

She never missed an opportunity to enjoy ice cream and often found happiness in life's simple pleasures. Those small moments of joy reflected the grateful spirit with which she approached life.

More than anything else, Beverly's greatest accomplishment was her family. Her love was steady and unconditional. She taught by example, demonstrating strength during difficult times, grace in the face of challenges, and gratitude for life's many blessings.

It seemed especially fitting that Beverly's earthly journey concluded on Labor Day, a day set aside to honor dedication, perseverance, and hard work. Those same qualities defined the way she lived her life and cared for the people she loved.

Her family and friends will forever remember her warmth, quiet strength, and unwavering love. While her absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the memories she created, and the generations who continue to be shaped by her life.

"A life well lived leaves a trail of love that time cannot erase."
