Bradford “Brad” D. Beverlin, age 78, passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, NE on April 18, 2026, after many years of battling dementia.
Brad was born in Saint Joseph, MO on August 13, 1947, to parents Homer and Betty (McDaniel) Beverlin. Brad grew up with his brother Bryce in southern Iowa, Missouri, and Aurora, Illinois, where he graduated high school with the class of 1965. Brad then achieved his Bachelor of Science in 1970 from Aurora College in IL.
Brad married Sylvia Martin in 1967. From this union, they were blessed with two children: Bradford II and Megan.
In Brad’s professional life, he was a railroad engineer for BNSF for 37 years.
Brad married Penelope Rose (Hansen) Bratland in McCook in September 2004. They met in Denver when Penny worked at the hotel where the McCook railroaders would stay.
Brad loved listening to all genres of music and was a collector of guns. He cared for many dogs and cats throughout his life. He enjoyed working on and accumulating cars and trucks. Brad was a traveler and had adventured to Germany, Czechoslovakia, Western United States, and many other places. He would make friends wherever he would go and could talk to anyone…even a fencepost.
Brad will be remembered for his kindness, his interest in the world and people, and his quick wit.
Brad was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to celebrate Brad’s life are his wife Penny Beverlin and their yellow lab, Louie of McCook, NE; children, Bradford Beverlin II of Colorado and Megan Moss of Louisiana; step-sons, Tom Bratland of Colorado, and Dennis (Katrin) Bratland of Seattle, WA and their children Hector and Sally; brother, Bryce (Pam) Beverlin of Minneapolis, MN; and nephew Bryce Beverlin II and nieces Christa Potter and Katelyn Bignall.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorials contributions are suggested to McCook Humane Society, PO Box 13, McCook, NE 69001; OR plants or planting flowers for Penny and Brad’s garden.
