Carrie Lynn Johnson, a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on September 6, 2026, in Lincoln, NE, at the age of 50.

Carrie was born on January 13, 1976, to Timothy D. and Jennifer L. (Stineman) Boyd in McCook, NE. Growing up, Carrie was a social butterfly, but because she loved dragonflies, her family would lovingly say she was a “social dragonfly.” Carrie made friends everywhere she went and with everyone she met. She treasured time spent with her family and friends, especially at her family’s lake cabin, and enjoyed quilting and scrapbooking with her mom.

Carrie was active throughout high school, participating in her favorite sports, cross country and track. She even joined a traveling softball team so she could spend more time with her best friend. Carrie carried her love of people, fun, and adventure throughout her high school years and graduated from McCook High School with the Class of 1994.

Carrie met Jonathan “Jon” Johnson when they were young and were friends all through life. They started dating their senior year in high school and fell in love shortly after. Carrie and Jon were united in marriage at Memorial Methodist Church in McCook on August 3, 1996. From this union, they were blessed with two daughters, Abbie and Chayse.

Carrie continued her education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and later the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. While attending UNL, she met her “Pauley Lumber friends,” friendships that remained close to her heart throughout her life. Eventually, life brought Carrie back to McCook to be closer to her family, where she and Jon began raising their family.

Carrie dedicated 20 years to McCook Community Hospital, beginning her career as a receptionist before moving into the IT department, where she became a Project Manager.

Carrie was deeply involved in the McCook community. She volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Memory Walks, PEO, PTO, Memorial Methodist Church, the YMCA, and countless youth activities. If there was an opportunity to support her family, friends, or community, Carrie was there.

One of Carrie’s greatest joys was spending time at her family’s lake cabin with family and friends. She also made sure to bring her camera wherever she went, always ready to capture the moments and memories that meant so much to her. Carrie was her children’s biggest supporter, following Abbie and Chayse to every event and activity they participated in. Along the way, she met the “ski group family,” who became lifelong friends and a treasured support system throughout her life.

Carrie will be remembered for the way she could light up a room with her joy and her contagious, witty giggle that brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Her genuine kindness, generous spirit, and loving heart touched countless lives. She will be deeply and sincerely missed by every person fortunate enough to have known and loved her.

Those who will be celebrating Carrie’s legacy is her husband of 30 years Jon Johnson of McCook, NE; daughters, Abbie Johnson of Lincoln, NE, Chayse Johnson of McCook, NE, and bonus daughter, Kerisa Boyd; siblings, Eric Boyd of Lincoln, NE and Kevin (Tera) Boyd of McCook, NE; nieces and nephews, Raegan Boyd, Mason Boyd, Axel Boyd, Spencer Boyd, and Megyn Boyd; and numerous friends and extended family.

Carrie is preceded in death by her parents; cousin, Mason Westra; uncle, Roger Stineman; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
