Cathy Louise Schutz, age 46, passed away in McCook, Nebraska at the Community Hospital on August 24, 2025.
Cathy was born on March 10, 1979, to parents Terry W. and Dixie L. (Matson) Dyer in Amarillo, TX. She grew up in Amarillo where she participated in school choir, orchestra, and the art club, and graduated high school with the Class of 1997. In her younger years, she worked at the Amarillo Goodwill store.
A cousin introduced Cathy to Larry E. Schutz. They dated for a year and the two were married on August 29, 2000, in Trenton, NE. Together, they were blessed with a daughter, Elizabth Jane Schutz.
In her professional life, Cathy worked for the Department of Health and Human Services for the state of Nebraska for over 10 years. She then worked for the Cobblestone Inn in Cambridge, NE for a couple years. She enjoyed helping others through hospitality work. Cathy also worked as a paper carrier for the McCook Gazette.
Cathy was a skilled musician, especially with violin and guitar. If she could pick up the instrument, she could learn how to play it. She loved to sing and would participate in karaoke nights and going to concerts. She was very artistic and good at crafts. Cathy had a way with kids and animals; they were very drawn to her warm heart. Cathy attended the McCook Baptist Church and was a member of the Eagles Club.
Cathy will be remembered for being caring, kind, graceful, and selfless. Her smile could light up a room. She was amazing at helping others through hard times even if she was also facing troubles. She had a strong yet sensitive beauty inside and out. She was an angel to many people and truly helped from her heart. Christmas was her favorite because she loved everything about it, the pretty sparkles, the time with family, giving to others, and cooking; she especially loved baking.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Larry Schutz of McCook, NE; daughter, Elizabeth Jane Schutz of North Platte, NE; brother, John Elbert Dyer of McCook, NE; and a host of cousins, friends, and extended family.
