Dennis Burdette Shannon

Dennis Burdette Shannon, age 67, passed away Monday, January 02, 2017 at his home in Bartley, NE with his family by his side.
Dennis was born on July 27, 1949 to Burdette Henery Emmett and Bonnie Anna (Laura) Shannon in Schenectady, New York. He was one of three brothers. Dennis grew up in Crystal Lake, IL, graduating from Crystal Lake Sr. High.
On October 15, 1977, Dennis married Cathleen (Osborn) Shannon in Wheat Ridge, CO and then moved to Bartley where they made their home. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Jessica and Sabrina. Dennis worked as a truck driver for a local freight company.
Dennis was a member of the First Congregational Church in McCook, NE. He was involved in the Sinners Sanctified Motorcycle Ministry, in which he was also a member, as well as the Patriot Guard Riders. Playing softball and bowling were some of his favorite past times. Dennis will be remembered by many as Santa Claus, a role he joyfully enacted each Christmas Season.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Cathy of their home in Bartley; his two daughters, Jessica (Eric) Lucero and Sabrina (Brian) Korell all of McCook; brother, Earl Shannon of MN; brother in law Michael (Susan) Osborn of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters in law, Donna Gieck of Wheat Ridge and Lori Finney of Lakewood, CO; as well as his five grandchildren, Adryan, Anthony, Nevaeh, Elina and Serenity.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lee “Skip” Shannon; and two brothers in law, Robert Gieck and Gary Finney.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 4 to 8PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook, with family present to greet friends from 5 to 7PM.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017, beginning at 10:30AM, at the First Congregational Church with Pastor Steve Bales officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bartley Cemetery, Bartley.
