Obituary

Donald Joseph Kometscher, age 86, formally of Indianola, NE, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at St. Joseph Villa in Omaha.

Don was born on June 21, 1939, in Indianola, NE to parents Leo Joseph and Mary Cecelia (Walz) Kometscher. He was one of three siblings who graduated from Red Willow High School with the Class of 1957. Following high school, Don proudly served his country in the United States Army from December 18, 1961, and was honorably discharged December 17, 1967.

In 1968, Don married Judith D. Duntz in Riverton, NE. They were blessed with three sons. Over the years, Don farmed both his own land and for others in the area. He was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Indianola, NE and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook, NE. Don enjoyed woodworking and sold many of the custom chairs he made. He loved to travel, especially with his grandchildren, and will be remembered for his love of conversation and the many friends he had.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Eugene Kometscher; sister-in-law, Loretta Kometscher; brother-in-law, Dale Lashley; two granddaughters. Danielle and Katrina; and niece, Tammi (Brian) Eyl.

Those left to celebrate his life include his sons, Dan (Roxanne) Kometscher of Council Bluffs, IA and Gary Kometscher of Central City, NE; brother, Bob Kometscher of Ocala, FL; sister, Darlene Lashley of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
