Dwayne Allen Brunswick

March 25, 1956 — September 16, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our husband and father, Dwayne Brunswick who passed away in McCook, NE on September 16, 2025, at the age of 69, from Melanoma after cancer firmly took the upper hand.

Dwayne was born to parents Richard Brunswick and Ellen Raburn on March 25, 1956, in McCook, NE. Dwayne graduated from McCook Senior High School with the class of 1974.

After high school, Dwayne proudly served in US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on February 8, 1980.

Dwayne met Sheryl Ruppert on a blind date that a mutual friend set up. After three months of dating, they were married at the Methodist Church in McCook, NE on October 16, 1982. They raised their family in McCook.

In Dwayne’s professional life, he demonstrated art and skill as a welder, he owned his own welding shop and worked on bridges and trailers. Dwayne also worked for the City of McCook in various positions until retiring after 25 years.

Dwayne had a passion for stories of the old west and often spent time reading about the settler's quest for new lands and a better life. He was an avid Cornhusker fan and loved hopping on his motorcycle to enjoy the open road, sun and the solitude of a long drive. He enjoyed anything outdoors such as fishing, hunting, and camping.

Some of his greatest joy came from his wife, children and grandchildren. They created many memories while enjoying a backyard barbeque, time at home and especially throwing a line into a nearby lake to hook a few. He always made time for friends and extended his helping hand.

His family was exceptionally proud of him. To Dwayne’s family and friends, Dwayne was a definition of an oak tree: tall, strong, dependable, and well rooted. Dwayne will be remembered for being a very hard worker; being a quiet, unassuming man with a dry sense of humor; and his rich, vibrant and loving voice.

Dwayne is preceded in death by his mother, Ellen; stepmother, Mavis; and Brunswick and Raburn grandparents.

Those who will miss Dwayne dearly his is wife of 40+ year, Sherly Brunswick of McCook, NE; children, Jennifer (Jim) Bears of Washington; Duston (Stephanie) Jefferson of Curtis, NE; Scott (Dana) Brunswick of Alaska; Adam Brunswick of Lincoln, NE; Dale (Josie) Brunswick of Trenton, NE; and Madyson (Vernan) Carlton of Kansas; father, Richard Brunswick of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Lorane (Chet) Wisenheimer of Colorado Springs, CO; niece Dani and numerous cousins, friends, and extended family members.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, are to be donated to donor’s choice in Dwayne’s name.

His family will honor his wishes for no service and to be quietly scattered at Red Willow Dam-his and his wife's favorite fishing spot.
