Edna G. (Bruns) Poore, age 97, of McCook, NE passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at the Community Hospital in McCook.

Edna was born August 23, 1925, to Fred H. & Mabel H. (Knosp) Bruns in Dorchester, NE. In 1928, at 3 years old, she became a member of the United Methodist Church in Dorchester. She attended grade school in Dorchester but moved to Hastings, NE and graduated from Hastings High School in 1943. She was an active band member her junior and senior year.  During high school, she was also an usherette at the Rivoli Theater in Hastings.  Upon graduation, she was offered a job with the FBI in Washington DC to work for Jay Edger Hover.  However, she declined the job and moved to McCook and started working for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in the business office for 3 months.  Edna then went on to work for the Air Force in the communications department at the McCook Air Base as a pay station and PBX operator on base for 4 years.

Edna married Charles Wayne Poore in McCook on June 22, 1947.The couple was blessed with two children.

In 1954, Edna joined the Red Willow County Extension Club known as the Gingham Gals Homemaker Club and was an active member for over 50 years. She was also a member of Eastern Star, Eureka Chapter # 86 since 1956.  She was active in DOES, a part of the McCook Elks. Edna served as a 4-H Leader in Red Willow County for 5 years and enjoyed teaching the girls how to cook and sew.  She enjoyed going fishing with her husband, helping him with the baby calves, sewing for herself and others, doing all types of needlework and crafts, gardening, and feeding the birds and rabbits around the ranch.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Janice Grassmeyer and husband, Douglas of Kearney, NE; brothers, Lester G. Burns of Crete, NE and Terry L Dowling and wife, Phyllis of North Platte, NE; her granddaughter, Erin Grassmeyer of Henderson, NV; great-granddaughter, Addison Kirschner of Henderson, NV; sister in laws, Peggy Poore of Omaha, NE, Jeanette Poore of Lincoln, NE, Mary Ann (Poore) Tardiff and husband Ron of Cedar Rapids, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Proceeding her in death were her parents; husband, Wayne Poore; son, George Poore; brothers in law, Don, Bill, Dale and Rex Poore and Dale Bradshaw; sisters in law, Marjorie (Poore) Bradshaw, Lucile, Jeanie, and Mary Poore, and Evelyn Bruns.
