On February 3, 2017 Evelyn Elizabeth (McBride) Winters, with her beautiful “Smile”, met her Lord and Savior at Highland Park in McCook, Nebraska. She was 94 years old.
Evelyn was born on May 14, 1922 at Indianola, Nebraska to Dale Sheldon and Mary Theresa (Colling) McBride. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1940.
After high school she taught Country School for several years, until she moved to California to join Avery who was in the service during WWII.
On September 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Avery Winters in Lincoln, Nebraska. To this union three sons and three daughters were born.
Avery and Evelyn lived their entire married life in the Lebanon/Indianola area on their farm. In August 2008 they moved to Highland Park in McCook, Nebraska. She was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and Altar Society and later St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and Past officer of the America Legion Auxiliary.
Evelyn enjoyed reading, crocheting and playing cards. She also liked to spend time on genealogy records and the family tree. She was a 4-H leader when her kids were young and taught sewing.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Dale and Mary McBride; husband, Avery; sister, Roberta Randel; brothers Charles and William McBride; son, Richard Winters; son-in-law, Roady Ryan; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Winters.
Survivors include children, Carol and husband, Rodney Crampton of Riverside, CA; daughter-in-law, Carla Winters of McCook, Ken Winters of Grand Island, Linda and husband, Lee Maiden of McCook; Peggy and husband, Robert Rauch of Lodgepole, NE, and Scott and wife, Kris of Cordova; brothers, Robert (Velma) McBride of McCook, James (Ida) McBride of Holbrook; sister, Ruth Schuster of Lakewood, CO; 26 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with Father Greg Pawloski and Father Gary Brethour as Celebrants.
