Fred Alvin Pinkal, age 87, of McCook, NE, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Community Hospital of McCook.
Fred was born April 29, 1930 to William and Ollie Maye (Clayton) Pinkal in Custer, South Dakota. Fred attended school in Custer until moving to McCook in 1947.
On June 11, 1950 Fred married Ardith Jean Bales and to this union five children were born. Over the years, Fred was employed by the United States Bureau of Reclamation where he worked on the Trenton Dam. He was also employed by Farm and Home Distributors, McCook Packing Co., and Joe Edwards Machine Shop.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1948 to 1952, which included two years in the Korean War.
He was a member of First Congregational Church, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1652 and a charter member of the FOE post 2769.
Fred liked to work with his hands; he enjoyed woodworking, leatherwork, quilting with his wife, painting and embroidery.
Fred is survived by his children and spouses, Denise and Steve Bales, Fred Jr, and Heidi Pinkal, Terry and Lynn Pinkal, Rob and Barbara Pinkal, Shari Goodenberger and significant other, John Beideck all of McCook; special caregiver, Cherrie Carfield; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardith; his parents; sisters; Nora Bass, Golda Bachman, Dorothea Johnson, and Freida Sparks; brothers; Albert Pinkal, and William (Bud) Pinkal one granddaughter Shanna Bales; one great grandson Everett Bailey; and one son-in-law Joe Goodenberger.
Memorial services will be held at 10AM on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the First Congregational Church, McCook, with Pastor Steve Bales officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
