Ivan Hill

May 5, 1923 — June 17, 2016

Ivan Hill, age 93, passed away peacefully June 17, 2016, at the Mirasol Green House Homes in Loveland.  Ivan was born May 5, 1923 on a family farm northwest of McCook, NE to Charles and Pearl Hill.

Ivan served in the US Navy from December 1943 to May 1946. On September 14th 1945, he married May Dike in Corvallis, OR. After discharge from the Navy, he and May returned to the McCook area to farm and raise their family.  Ivan also worked on the oil rigs in the area.  In his spare time he helped his three sons with 4-H calves, and instilled a work hard attitude.

Ivan and May with their Nebraska neighbors enjoyed card parties, family get-togethers, helping with harvests, and square dancing with the Foot and Fiddle Square Dance Club.

In 1969 Ivan decided to venture out on a new career and followed two of his brothers, Howard and Don, to Loveland, CO.  With the help of their Nebraska friends, Ivan and May built their first home in Loveland, where they found many new Colorado friends and again enjoyed square dancing with the Sweetheart Square Dance Club, the 085 Camping Group, and traveled to Arizona for a few weeks in the winter.

Ivan worked with his brother, Don, building homes. With partners they developed the Windstraw Shopping Center and Medical Building, and Sunny Acres Subdivision.  In 1971 Ivan and Don established D&I Prehung Doors. After May's death in January of 1987, having retired from the door business, Ivan built a winter home in Mesa, Arizona.

In May of 1988, Ivan married Gloria Sorgatz.  They too enjoyed square dancing, the 085 Camping Group, and lived in Arizona for 6 months out of the year.  Gloria preceded him in death in August of 2012.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and two brothers.  He is survived by one brother, Howard and his wife Marie. Sons: Rodney and wife Cathy, Randy and wife Jan, Kevin and wife Alice, and Gloria's daughters Rita Horse and husband Randy, and Becky Sorgatz.  Grandchildren: Rusty Hill, Casey Hill and wife Jessica, Shannon and husband Scott Sheldon, Jill and husband Brent Prindiville. Great Grandchildren: Alayna and Brody Sheldon, and Braden and Hannah Prindiville.  And many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday June 22, 2016 from 5-8 p.m., with the family greeting friends during that time at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Graveside services and burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 23. A luncheon will follow at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook.
