Jack G. Lytle, age 90, of McCook, NE passed away May 23, 2025, at his home in Highland Park Retirement Community.
Jack was born on a farm south of McCook, before the flood, to Helen M. (Bolles) and James O. Lytle on May 4, 1935. He attended and graduated from McCook High School in 1953. He then graduated from MCC in 1955.
On April 19, 1957, he married Sharon R. Beebe at the Methodist Church in McCook. They were married for 67 years until Sharon’s passing in October 2024. They had one Daughter, Dawn Renee Lytle-Rose.
Jack was a member of the United Methodist Church, National Guard, and the ELKs Club.
Jack was employed by the city of McCook for 39 years, as the Public Works Director. In the 1970s he oversaw the brick removal from Highway 6 and 34 to “B” Street to become pavement as we know it now. He was also instrumental in the roads at Barnett Park getting paved.
He and Sharon had a passion for cattle. They enjoyed many years of raising cow and calf pairs. Every Monday, you could find Jack and his buddies sitting in the same location at the Tri-State Livestock auction.
In his younger years he enjoyed stock car racing (until the death of his brother, Don), Hunting, fishing (especially those trips to Alaska and Canada with his nephews), and basketball. He loved all sports on TV – GO HUSKERS!
Jack was preceded in death by wife of 67 years, Sharon R. (Beebe) Lytle, parents, brother Donald (Joan) Lytle and Glenn “Bud” Lytle, brother-in-law Gary Mills, nephews Glen Lytle and Murray Overton, and niece Joyce (Beebe) Spickelmeyer.
Jack is survived by daughter, Dawn (Tom) Renee Lytle-Rose, and numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook, NE
