James "Jim" Martin Hegwood

James Martin “Jim” Hegwood, age 65, of McCook, NE passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Community Hospital in McCook.

Jim was born on October 15, 1952 to Milton Elsworth and Florence Lucille (Harrison) in Denver, Colorado.  He graduated from Culbertson High School in 1970. He later went on to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney, earning his Bachelor degree in Computer Science in 1990. Upon his return to the southwest Nebraska area, Jim worked alongside his son James in the concrete business, serving as General Manager of Hegwood Concrete.

Jim liked collecting guns and shooting black powder. He also enjoyed working on cars, especially showing off his 1965 Shelby Cobra in various car shows.  He was a member of the Southwest Cruisers Car Club.  He faithfully attended Cowboy Church and loved spending time with his family.

Jim is survived by his children, Rita Pracht of Lincoln, NE, James Hegwood Jr. and wife, Alicia of Culbertson, NE, Amber Olderbak and husband, Michael of Lincoln, and William Hegwood and wife, Virginia of Scottsbluff, NE; parents, Milton and Florence Hegwood of Culbertson; brother, Jerry Hegwood and wife, Janet of Aurora, Colorado; sister, Jeanette Peters of McCook; 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at McCook Christian Church, McCook, from 12:30 until the time of the service at 1:30 PM.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, November 17, 2017 at McCook Christian Church with Pastors Clark Bates and Richard Atterbery officiating.  Family Burial will take place after the funeral services.

Memorials may be designated to Compassion International in order to continue sponsoring the international children Jim was supporting each month.  Memorials may be sent to his daughter, Rita Pracht, 3545 North 48th, Lincoln, NE 68504.
