John Jay Ruppert

John Jay Ruppert of McCook passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 84 years old.

John was born at McCook to parents, Jay John and Doris (Meissner) Ruppert. He attended school at rural District #101.

On April 19, 1951 he entered the US Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 19, 1953 and continued to serve his country in the reserves until 1957.

On September 10, 1951 he was united in marriage to Lola I. Fischer at McCook. To this union two sons, Ronald and Doug were born. They made their home on a farm northwest of McCook in the Quick Community. John farmed until his retirement in 1981 at which time they moved to McCook.

He was a member of the McCook Elk's Lodge and Curtis American Legion.

In his younger years John played baseball for the Quick Baseball team and later loved watching softball. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time in his garden, and taking long walks everyday after he moved to town.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Lola; his parents, Jay and Doris Ruppert; siblings, Dale and Homer Ruppert and Ann Rowley; brothers-in-law, Cecil Rowley, Gary Trosper, Marlin Zimbelman, Ferris Magee, Dick Fischer, Mack Nutt, Clyde Fischer and Bob Easton; and sister-in-law, Elane Fischer.

Survivors include his two sons, Ronald Ruppert and wife, Kathy, of McCook and Doug Ruppert of Curtis; brother, Bob Ruppert and wife, Jean, of McCook; sisters, Helen Magee and Mary Zimbelman both of McCook; brothers-in-law, James Fischer and wife, Lois, of Casper, WY and Dave Fischer and wife, Delma, of Maywood; sisters-in-law, Donna Ruppert and Naomi Ruppert both of McCook, Lucille Nutt of Curtis and Barb Easton of Laramie, WY; grandchildren, Ryan (Francie) Ruppert, Willis (Libby) Ruppert, Brent (Erin) Ruppert, and Bambi (Jeremy) Meyers; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 22, 2014, 4- 8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be Monday, June 23, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
