Kenneth Robert Martin

Kenneth Martin, age 96, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Ken was born on October 2, 1921 to Merlin Myers and Florence Catherine (Ferguson) Martin in Edison, Nebraska.  He attended Farmers School Dist #28 in Furnas County until 8th grade and the graduated from Edison High School.

Ken entered the US Air Corps on January 1, 1942 and was honorably discharged September 15, 1945.  He served in Australia, New Guinea and the Schouten Islands and at Laredo, TX. He had a total overseas time of 33 months and 8 days.

On October 1, 1948 he married Julia Ann (Smith) Milligan. They lived in Denver after they were married for 14 years, and then moved to the Chicago area in 1962.  They moved to McCook in 1984 after he retired from United Airlines.

Ken was a supervisor of the mail room at United Airlines Corporate Headquarters in Elk Grove Village, IL.

Ken enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was very patriotic and had a love for his country.

Ken was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. He also had memberships to McCook Lodge, A.F. & A. M. #135, (Worshipful Master, 1991), King Cyrus Chapter #35 (High Priest, 2000), Occonoxee Council #16 (Illustrious Master, 1999) Saint John Commandery #16, (Commander, 2001), Tehama Shrine Club of Hastings, Order of the Eastern Star, Eureka Chapter #86 (Worthy Patron, 1993) and the Knights York Cross of Honor (KYCH).

Ken is survived by his daughter, Mary Virginia (Martin) Keslin of McCook; step-son, Ronald Gordan Smith and wife, Gail of Aurora, CO; brother, Mark Martin and wife, Ruby of Kearney, NE; and four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Julia Ann on March 26, 2010; brother, Ward H. Martin; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Tom Hellner.

Register book signing from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and the family present on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be Monday, January 8, 2018 at 2:00 PM at St. Albans Episcopal Church with Rev. Dr. Brad J. Brauer officiating.   Inurnment will follow in St. Alban’s Columbarium.
