Larry Gene Mitchem, age 81, formerly of McCook, NE passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Good Samaritan Society St. John’s in Kearney, NE.

Larry was born March 24, 1942 in McCook to parents Dale Jess and Fern Elizabeth (Worske) Mitchem. He was one of ten children.

Larry married Joy (Lawver) Mitchem on August 22, 1965 in McCook.

Over the years, Larry worked in the construction industry. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and country dancing. Larry had a love of horses and learned to break horses in his younger years. He was a gifted musician who played music by ear. He will be remembered for his talent on the harmonica.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virgina Moore and Viretta Matlinda; one brother, Robert Mitchem; and a grandson, Blake Teel.

Those left to celebrate his life include children, Danny (Donna) Mitchem of Gibbon, NE, Suzanne Teel, Robyn Springer, Cindy Sanchez and Brenda (Lee) Rowedder, all of Kearney, NE, and Michelle (Rashard) King of North Platte, NE; brothers, Dale Vern (Jane) Mitchem of McCook, NE and Mike Mitchem of Lincoln, NE; sisters, Sandra Boljack of Lincoln, NE, Linda Plourd of Cambridge, NE, and Erma (Val) DeLance  and Laura Madrigal, all of Lincoln, NE; nineteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
