Leoma "Lee" Marie Blackman

March 28, 1916 — November 14, 2013

Leoma Marie “Lee” Blackman originally from Indianola passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was 97 years old.

Lee was born on March 28, 1916, at Holbrook, NE to parents, Charles E. and Hazel M. (Nelson) Tomlin. She attended school in Holbrook.

On May 6, 1937 she became the bride of Victor G. Blackman. To this union six children were born. Lee was a busy homemaker and mother. She was also a cook at the Republican Valley Schools for many years which she dearly loved being around the children.

Lee was a member of the Indianola United Methodist Church and Methodist Women. She enjoyed working in her garden especially with her flowers. Her greatest pride and joy were following her grandchildren in all of their sports and activities.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles and Hazel Tomlin; her beloved husband, Victor Blackman in 1973; her daughter, Virginia Liess; grandson, Greg Blackman; two sisters, Opal Nolan and Joann Laird; and four brothers, Edward, Lyle, Bryce, and Charles Tomlin.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol and husband, Gene Liess, of McCook; sons, Larry Blackman and wife, Danny, of Bartley, Gene Blackman and wife, Lillian, of Grand Junction, CO, Bob Blackman and wife, Belinda, and Terry Blackman and wife, Beth, all of Lincoln; brother, Kenneth Tomlin and wife, Peggy, of Seward; 22 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Indianola Mrs. X-JC’s Playground Equipment Fund.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 17, 2013, 4-8:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 18, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at the Indianola United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Wulf officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianola Cemetery.
