Leon B. Waggoner, age 94, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at his home in Carmichael, California.

He was born June 17, 1921 in Republican City, NE to Allen E. and Jenny (Shippert) Waggoner.

Leon graduated from Alma High School, Alma, Nebraska, in 1939. Three years later, on July 16, 1942, he entered the United States Army.  Leon was honorably discharged on November 5, 1945. Following his discharge from the military, Leon worked a survey engineer for The Bureau of Reclamation for 35 years.  Following his retirement in 1980, Leon moved to Phoenix, Arizona and then to McCook, Nebraska.

Leon married LaVeda Kirste on April 6, 1947 in McCook.  Following her death in 1989, Leon married Maxine Waggoner on July 10, 1993 in Alma.

Leon enjoyed bowling and playing golf.  He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.  Leon was a member of the McCook Memorial United Methodist Church, the VFW, American Legion, Eagles and the BPO Elks Lodge for 29 years.

Surviving him are two sons, Larry L. Waggoner of Carmichael and Kenneth L. Hartman of Vancouver, WA; daughter, Patricia Ann Blalock of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter Shannon and husband Josh Cole and their children Andrew and Heather of Carmichael; grandson Jon and wife Kristine Waggoner and their son Jacob, also of Carmichael.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, and both wives.

Visitation will be held at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 4 to 6 PM.

Services will be held at Monday, October 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating.

Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Hendley Cemetery at Hendley, NE.

Memorials may be given to the Memorial United Methodist Church, 105 East E St., McCook, NE  69001.
