Lewis "Lewie" I. Palmer

April 13, 1935 — February 6, 2024

Lewis “Lewie” Ivan Palmer, age 88, of McCook, NE passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Lewie was born April 13, 1935, in Wilsonville, NE to parents Ivan and Nellie L. (Henry) Palmer.  He was one of five children who graduated from Wilsonville High School with the Class of 1953.

Lewie married the love of his life, Jane M. (Kircher) Palmer on April 13, 1961, in Wilsonville. Lewie and Jane owned and operated the Medicine Creek Lodge at Harry Strunk Lake for six years before Lewie’s employment with Frenchman Cambridge Irrigation District in Cambridge, NE.

Together with Jane, Lewie enjoyed camping, gardening, fishing and riding motorcycles. He collected old cars and motorcycles and was a member of the local coffee club.  His family was his pride and joy, and he rarely missed his children and grandchildren’s many events.

Lewie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wanda Shelley and Jeanette Hollinger; two brothers, Larry Palmer and Keith Palmer; and two sons in laws, John Wendel and Don Ruggles.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Jane Palmer of McCook; children, Vicky (Delton) Young, Theresa Ruggles and Brenda (Dennis) Liess, all of McCook, Julie Wendel and fiancé, Brad Schow of American Fork, UT and Bradley (Teresa) Palmer of Tiffin, IA; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Tri Valley Health, 1305 West Hwy 6 and 34, Cambridge, NE 69022 or Grace Bible Church, c/o Brad Harris, 1022 Pacific Street, Cambridge, NE 69022.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on Monday, March 18, 2024, at McCook Christian Church in McCook with Pastor Kyle Dellevoet.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm at the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge with Pastor Brad Harris.
