Margaret Rodgers

February 14, 1919 — January 8, 2015

Margaret Ellen Rodgers of Palisade passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 95 years old.

Margaret was born on her grandparent’s farm near Red Cloud, Nebraska on February 14, 1919, to parents Jesse Lewis and Phebe Irene (Harry) Barlow.

As a baby Margaret and her family moved to the Palisade community. She attended grade school at rural Prairie Union. She graduated from Palisade High School in 1936.

On July 4, 1939 she was united in marriage to Glen Clinton Rodgers at Elwood, Nebraska. In 1942 the couple moved to Boulder, CO. They returned to the Palisade area in 1978. Margaret was a busy homemaker and mother of two daughters. She also worked at the Palisade Public Library.

Margaret was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and attended many Bible Study Groups. She was a Gold Star Sister of American Legion Auxiliary #318 since 1979. Among her favorite pass times were sewing, gardening, keeping track of family correspondence, and the daily weather. She also enjoyed reading especially poetry and writing particularly to her many pen-pals. She had a passion for birds, cats and collecting bells.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jesse and Phebe Barlow; her husband, Glen Rodgers; her daughter, Kathleen Ellen Garron; two infant babies, Dolores and David; son-in-law, Robert McNutt; and brothers, Raymond and wife Mae, Wilbur, Paul and Alvin.

Survivors include her daughter Deborah Jo McNutt of Palisade; grandchildren, James Rodgers, John Garron III, Brenda Garron and Laura Garron; step grandchildren, David (Cheryl) McNutt and Diana (Steve) Arhart; numerous great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ellen Barlow of Culbertson; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name.

Memorial services will be Thursday, January 15, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Rev. Bonnie McCord officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later time at the Trenton Cemetery.
