Mary "DeVona" Kelly of Indianola passed away Friday, May 9, 2014 at Community Hospital in McCook. She was 88 years old.
She was born September 29, 1925 in Frontier County, Nebraska to Albert E. and Nellie A. (Weisman) Kelly.
DeVona graduated from Curtis High School in 1944. After graduation she moved to the Indianola area and taught at several rural schools until she began her career with the US Postal Service in 1953. She worked her way up to Post Master at the Indianola Post Office. She retired in July 1983.
DeVona was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed bowling and she played softball for many years.
Survivors include her cousin, Gwen Miller and her children, Julie (Brad) Worman and family of Nelson, Marsha Belz and family of Lincoln, and Melody (Dave) Hoffmann and family of Aurora; Godchildren, Lisa Chester and Erik of Garden City, KS, Kim (Rich) Barnett and their children, Cole and Caylin of McCook; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Patrick Dean.
Rosary will be Tuesday, May 13, 2014, 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with Father Thomas McGuire as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name to St. Catherine's Catholic Church or to the charity of your choice.
