Mercedes "Mercy" Bunnell

December 30, 1938 — December 28, 2016

Mercedes “Mercy” Bunnell of Culbertson, NE passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Sunrise Heights of Wauneta in Wauneta, NE.  She was 77 years old.

Mercy was born December 30, 1938 in Sweet Water, TX to parents Jooaquin and Sapopa (Zapata) Rosas. She was one of two daughters.

On June 6, 1964, Mercy married Billy Bunnell in Canutillo, TX.  The couple was blessed with three children.

Mercy contracted Polio as a small child which limited her ability. She was, however, able to compete in shooting sports.  Mercy actively participated in Silhouette Shooting where she won several awards for her marksmanship.

Mercy was a gifted oil painter who also loved to cook and bake for her family and many friends. She was a member of the NRA and a past member of the Bovae Gun Club.  Her Catholic faith was very important to her as well.

Mercy was happy to donate a buffalo to the Hayes Center Lions Club each year they had the Grand Duke Alexis Rendezvous for all the Lions Club had done for her as a child with Polio.

Mercy was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Anita Hernandez.

Mercy is survived by her husband, Billy Bunnell of Culbertson; two daughters, Lorenza (Joaquine) Hernandez of Canutillo, TX and Rosie (Patrick) Murray-Varra of Cheyenne, WY; son, Joe (Jeannette) Bunnell of Beverly, NE; as well as seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 4 to 8PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook, NE.

Funeral Services will also be held at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 beginning at 10:30 AM with Chaplain Dave Davidson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Trenton Cemetery located in Trenton, NE.
