Ronald J Sis, age 89 of McCook, Nebraska passed away on the 10th day of May 2025. Ronald was born to James J Sis & Georgia V (Pitner) Sis on April 13, 1936, in Stratton, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm in Northwest Kansas and graduated from Stratton High School in 1953. After graduation, Ronald enlisted in the United States Army in the fall of 1955, where he served as active enlisted until he was honorably discharged in 1957. After leaving the Army, Ron returned home to Southwest Nebraska.
Ronald met Adonna Arnold on a blind date and the two were married on December 29,1958 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby, Kansas. Ron and Donna were married 65 years when she passed in 2024. Six children blessed this union. In 1962, the couple made their home in McCook, NE. Ronald farmed southeast of McCook and was employed by the United States Postal Service.
Ronald was a lifelong Catholic. He was a devout member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of McCook, NE. He loved the Lord and faithfully attended mass until his health prevented his attendance. Ronald was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion & the McCook Elks Lodge.
Ron dearly loved his wife and family. He saw the simple beauty in the amber waves of wheat fields and a pasture full of cows.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife (Adonna Sis), his parents (James and Georgia Sis), brothers (James Dean Sis and Dennis M Sis), his son in law (Lee Don Scott), and his grandson (Nathan Sis).
Survivors include his children; Michael (Cathy) Sis of Bellevue, NE, Melanie Scott of Oberlin, KS, Melissa (Keith) Prohaska of Columbus, NE, Martin (Denise) Sis of McCook, Mitchell (Dee) Sis of McCook, Marshell (Tracey) Sis of McCook, along with 24 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 3 more on the way.
Memorials are suggested to be given in Ron’s name to be designated at a later date.
Public visitation is from 1-6 pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, with family greeting, from 4-6 pm at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook, NE.
Prayer Vigil of the Rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook, NE.
Mass will be at 10:00 am Thursday, May 15, 2025, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook, NE, with Father Bernard Kimminau as celebrant.
A burial is to follow mass at the Calvary Cemetery in McCook, NE.
