Velma Deloris Hanger

Velma Deloris Hanger, age 79, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Golden Living Center – Grand Island Lakeview.
Velma was born on April 29, 1937 to Erick and Pearl (Alley) Ebert in McCook. She grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1956.
Velma entered the US Navy on November 5, 1956 and was honorably discharged January 25, 1957.
On August 30, 1957 she married Carl C. Hanger in McCook. To this union four children were born.
She enjoyed drawing, reading books, her cats and listening to the birds sing.
Velma volunteered as a greeter for 19 years at the VA hospital in Grand Island.
Survivors include her sons, Eric (Kristi) Hanger of Riverton, WY, Jonathan (Alonda) Hanger of Owensboro, KY; daughters, Tammy Hanger of Grand Island, Ethel Hanger of Lincoln; sister, Frances Haily of Misssouri; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl on June 28, 1997; brothers, Kenneth Ebert, Carl Ebert; sisters, Erma Nokes, Karen Townsend and Minnie Hill; one granddaughter, Ashley Lavery and one great granddaughter Mikincy Hanger.
Graveside memorial services with military honors will be held Friday, July 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Russell Wolf officiating. Inurnment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.
