VerDon W. Scott

VerDon Scott of Hayes Center, NE passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Perkins County Health Services in Grant, NE. He was 81 years old.
VerDon was born March 6, 1935 in Palisade, NE to parents Harley Allen and Helen Marie (Phelps) Scott. He was one of eight siblings. VerDon grew up in Palisade where he also attended school.
On August 1, 1958 VerDon married the love of his life, Denyse Scott, in Hayes Center. The couple made Hayes Center their home where VerDon operated the grain elevator. They were blessed with five children.
VerDon bravely served his country in the United States Navy from March 19, 1954 to January 17, 1958.
VerDon was a lifelong resident of Hayes Center. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, the Hayes Center Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as past Fire Chief, and the local VFW. VerDon served multiple terms on the Hayes Center Town Board and was also a member of the Union Congregational Church of Christ.
VerDon could be found coaching Little League Baseball during the summer, and he also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Visiting with family and friends was his favorite way to pass the time.
VerDon was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gene, Darwin and Dorrence Scott; as well as three sisters, Phyllis, Mavis and Joyce.
VerDon is survived by his loving wife, Denyse Scott of the home in Hayes Center; his five children, son Brent Scott of Wallace, NE, daughter Candace Scott of Ypsilanti, MI, son Roger Scott of Hayes Center, son Dennis Scott of Hayes Center and son Mitchel Scott of Wallace, brother Ron Scott of McCook. Also surviving are VerDon’s five grandchildren; Allyson Pitch, Austin Pitch, Ethen Scott, Lane Scott and Kaden Scott.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 4 to 8 PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Hayes Center, beginning at 10:30 AM, with Pastor Jean Miller officiating.
Burial will in the Hayes Center Cemetery, also located in Hayes Center.
