William “Bill” Eugene Sughroue of Indianola, NE passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, in Lincoln, NE at the age of 93.

After graduation, Bill attended Railroad school in Omaha to learn telegraphy. Soon after, he began his professional career with Burlington Northern Railroad where he worked for 43 years. He retired in 1993.

In 1952, Bill took a leave of absence from the railroad and proudly enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. He served our country as a teletype and cryptographic operator until being honorable discharged on January 6, 1956.

Bill met Eulalia “Sue” Ann Otter in McCook, NE. They were married on April 15, 1961, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Almelo, KS. From this union, they were blessed with four children: Sam, Ed, Sheila, and Mary.

Bill loved to travel. His family will cherish their memories made on their yearly summer trips all over the U.S. He was very active in his kids’ and grandkids’ lives, following them to all their school activities and sporting events. He loved to work outdoors and enjoyed researching family history and genealogy, and compiling newspaper articles for family and friends. Every Sunday, Bill could be found driving to see his farmland which provided him with immense joy. He was an avid Husker football and volleyball fan, often spending fall weekends in Lincoln supporting the teams.

Bill will be remembered for his spirited personality and his gift of conversation – he never met a stranger.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Roger Sughroue and in-laws, Leo and Agnes Otter.
