William D. Lacey, age 83, of McCook, NE passed away January 24, 2020 at his home in McCook.

Bill was born August 26, 1936 to parents William E. and Sara (Zailer) Lacey at St. Catherine’s Hospital in McCook. Bill attended country school at District 2 until the 8th Grade and finished his schooling in Culbertson, NE, graduating from Culbertson High School with the Class of 1954.

On May 27, 1956, Bill married Jean Louise (Plourd) Lacey at the First Congregational Church in McCook.  The couple became parents of two sons, William and Thomas.  The family made their home on the farm 7 miles north of Culbertson where Bill lived for almost 62 years.  Besides farming, Bill owned and operated a straight truck business for 30 years, beginning in the spring of 1960.

In August of 1998, Bill and Jean moved to McCook where Bill resided until his passing.  Bill loved dogs, and always had a family pet or two. He enjoyed puttering down country roads, observing the crops and cattle.  He also enjoyed meeting new people through his trucking business and strived to be fair and honest with his customers.

Bill was a past member of the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association as well as the Gideons International.  He was a friend of the Cowboy Church and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Jean Lacey of the home in McCook; and his two sons, William (Linda) Lacey of Hershey, NE and Thomas (Susan) Lacey of Aurora, CO.
