David William Hurst

David W. Hurst, age 83, of McCook, NE passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Community Hospital in McCook.

David was born October 29, 1939 in Schenectady, New York to parents Robert and Dorothy (Williams) Hurst. He was one of two brothers.

Following high school, David enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country for 23 years. He was a Desert Storm Veteran and a life time member of the Disabled American Veteran Chapter 4, Tampa, Florida. Following his retirement from the Army, David drove a tour bus for Disney Resorts and also worked for several long haul trucking companies over the years.

On October 6, 1973, David married Dianne (Spindler) Hurst in Joliet, Illinois. David was a lifetime member of VFW Lake Wales Post 2420. He enjoyed playing bingo, his dog, Justice, NASCAR, reading and traveling. David was also a history buff and a member of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Haines City, FL.

David was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bradley Hurst; daughter, Lori Wiedenhoeft; daughter in law, Jill Wiedenhoeft; and sister in law, Sally Hurst.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Dianne Hurst of Winter Haven, FL; daughter, Lisa Hurst of Madrid, NE; son, David (Sandy) Hurst, Jr. of Haines City, FL; son, Brian (Cathy) Hurst of Mayfield, NY; stepson, Larry (Kim Melkonian) Wiedenhoeft of Fresno, CA; stepson, Les Wiedenhoeft of Grafton, WI; brother, Glenn Hurst of Winter Haven, FL; thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and his beloved dog, Justice.

Memorial contributions are suggested to McCook Humane Society, POB 13, McCook, NE 69001.

Private family services with Military Honors will take place at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
