Obituary

David Robert “Bob” Bobinmyer age 97 of McCook, NE passed away on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, McCook, NE. 

David Robert “Bob” Bobinmyer was born on the Bobinmyer Ranch (Homesteaded 1886) South of Culbertson on Oct. 16, 1925 to John E. and Anna B. (Drain) Bobinmyer.  He was the 3rd child of six children.  He attended country school through the 7th grade.  He attended 8th grade through High School at Herndon graduating in 1943.  In High School he went out for football and boxed at the McCook Elks Boxing Club and won the 118 lb. class to go on to the Golden Gloves in Omaha in 1942.  He continued to box in the Navy.

Bob was drafted in the Navy on January 6, 1945.  He was assigned to the LST 596 Asian/Pacific as a motor Machinist 3rd Class.  He was discharged in July of 1946.

Bob returned to the family farm in 1946.  He was united in marriage to Vera Victoria Case on August 10, 1947 at the home of her parents in rural Culbertson.  To this union, three children were born: James Edward “Jim”, David Robert J. and Vicki Ann.  They made their home on the Bobinmyer Ranch until 1971 moving into McCook. 

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially woodworking and gardening.  He made an array of different things, and he liked working in his trees and garden.  Bob and Vera enjoyed going to dances, watching their grandchildren and attending their many activities. 

Bob had been a member of: Election board, school board district 18, original member of the Culbertson Rural Fire Department, UCC church in Herdon, McCook COOP Equity board, Lifetime member of the VFW, Elks 50 years and Eagles 40 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Vera of 73 years, sons Jim and Dave.  His parents John and Anna, brothers June and Doug, sisters Doris Wacker and Norma Strunk.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Vicki Berkley and husband James of Stockton, KS; daughter-in-law Hazel Bobinmyer; Grandchildren, Jonathan Berkley and wife, Nikki of Stockton, KS, Brian Berkley and wife Quincy, of Stockton, KS and Renee Berkley Earl and husband Capt. Levi USMC Yuma, AZ, Jaime Hornecker and husband Heath of Casper, WY, Tyler Bobinmyer and wife Jenna of Culbertson, NE, Cody Bobinmyer and Haley of Gordan, NE; great grandchildren, Henry, Charlotte, Ned, and Margaret Berkley all of Stockton, KS, Alexander Berkley, Stockton, KS, Nadine, Maxine and Porter Earl of Yuma, AZ, Nolan, Emmy, Carson and Jansen Hornecker, Casper, WY.  Preston and Parker Bobinmyer, Culbertson, NE and Haizley Bobinmyer, Gordan, NE, and sister Betty Rouselle of McCook, NE.
