Gene F. Purvis

Gene F. Purvis, age 72, of McCook, NE passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE due to a combination of health issues.

Gene was born May 21, 1950 in Portland, OR to parents Cecil and Lois Purvis.  He was the middle child, having an older brother and sister and a younger brother and sister.  The family later moved to Shelton, WA where Gene graduated from high school in 1969.

Gene married Diane (Kerns) Purvis in McCook of June 1, 1985. He was introduced to the people and kids in Bartley, NE as Diane was the business teacher there.  Gene truly enjoyed the Bartley community and especially going to 6-man football games.  He thought they were one of the fastest, high scoring games he had ever seen.

Gene worked various jobs when the family came back to Nebraska.  He retired after 31 years at Parker Hannifan. He owned and operated Gene’s Photography for 10 years. 

Gene enjoyed having motor homes and traveling, fishing, shooting and puttering in his garage.  He had an extensive collection of model trains. 

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother in law, Eugene and Betty Johnson; and a great nephew, Colton Eggelston.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife of 37 years, Diane Purvis of McCook; along with special family members which include his brother, Don (Sherry) Purvis of Kearney, NE and their daughters, Darcie (Luke) Weiss of Kearney and Danielle (Jayson) Eggleston of Oconto, NE; great nieces and nephews, Michael and Makenzie Weiss and Colbie and Cooper Eggleston; and his newly adopted 14 year old poodle, Knuckles.
