Lorraine Estella Real

Lorraine Estella Real, age 92, of McCook, passed away July 29, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.

Lorraine was born February 21, 1931, in Stratton, NE to Floyd and Nellie (Ovenden) League. She was the fifth out of ten kids. She grew up in Stratton, NE, and attended Stratton High School where she graduated with the Class of 1949.

She married the love of her life, Wayne Real, on April 7, 1950, and in 1951 they were blessed with the news they were expecting and found out it was twin girls Terry and Gerry. Throughout her life, she worked upstairs of DeGroffs as a seamstress, and then later moved downstairs and managed the kid’s department. As well as DeGroffs, she worked at Lots of Love, then enjoyed her time as a cook at the McCook Junior High cafeteria.

Lorraine loved her family and was very involved in all her grandkids and great grandkids’ lives. She created beautiful designs by knitting and sewing, and stayed active by doing yardwork and raising chickens and ducks. Lorraine made sure to make time for her bible studies and was an astonishing example of a follower of Christ.

Lorraine was proceeded in death by her parents, Floyd and Nellie League; husband, Wayne Real; and four brothers, four sisters, and one grandson, Jason Beard.

Those left to celebrate her life include daughters, Terry Beard and Gerry Bales of McCook, NE; grandkids, Sheree Kerns of McCook, NE, Gary (Michelle) Bales of Staplehurst, NE, Brian (Jenny) Bales of Dubuque, Iowa, Amanda Bales of Garden City, KS; nine great-grandkids, Jacob, Kristy, Abigail, Hannah, Emma, Madelyn, Jaxon, Quinton, and Eban; sister, Ruth Cook of Denver, Co; brother, Tom League of OR; and numerous extended family members and friends.
