Obituary

Marilyn Ann Betts, age 81, of McCook NE, a beloved wife, mother, grandma and friend, passed away on July 27, 2020 at McCook Community Hospital.

Marilyn was born to Jake and Minnie (Betz) Herbel on August 29, 1938 in Ellsworth KS. She grew up on the family farm south of Dorrance and graduated from Dorrance High School in 1955. Following high school she attended Dodge City Junior College.

On October 21, 1956 she was united in marriage to Lester Betts. The couple was blessed with two children; son, Leslie and daughter, Lorenda.

Marilyn spent many years tending to her beautiful gardens and cooking in her kitchen for family and friends. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and devoted many hours to her church and delivering meals on wheels. She enjoyed spending time with friends at Church circle, Extension club, Garden club, and Lunch Bunch. Her favorite way to spend time was with her grandkids. She helped with countless 4-H projects, went to many sporting events and programs, and made countless birthday cakes.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Lester of 63 years and her parents.

Those left to celebrate her life include her son, Leslie (Lorie) Betts of Dorrance, KS; daughter, Lorenda (Steve) Forbes of Beaver City, NE; five grandchildren, Jake, Krystle, Autumn, Nicole, and Sarah; and five great-grandchildren, Aiden, Noah, Amea, Kenya, and Amelia.
